Developing and using PPM models is one of the significant characteristics of a CMMI ML4 organization. PPM models are mainly developed for those items whose prediction allows for pro-active action in order to impact the performance of the project in a significant manner. For instance, the predicted performance for Productivity, Defect-density, Cost Variance, Schedule Variance, Time to Market, Rework, Effort, Injected Defects, Cost of Poor Quality etc. could be the values which a Project Manager would like to predicted in early stages of project and take proactive action. . The predictors that have been used to predict the afore-mentioned values and many others are Design Complexity, Type of Testing, Estimation Method Used, Defects, Cost, Schedule, Cycle Time, Task Complexity, Team Skill, Change Requests received, Rework Effort … and many others depending on the historical data availability. PPM models that could be used for Product Development industry may also be in the areas of Hardware Testing Performance, Project Estimation, Software Testing Performance and Static Mold Testing performance among other areas. Predictors for these PPM Models could be Hardware Defects (type, state, density, severity), Team size, Hardware Fatal or Serious Defects, Schedule Variance, Cost Variance, Project Complexity, Project Test Work-load Deviation, Static Modulus Defects (defect type, state and density), etc… Techniques used for developing PPM model are many like Regression Analysis, Monte Carlo Stimulation, Mathematical Transfer functions, Rayleigh curve, Discrete Event simulation, Chi Square & Logistic Regression, Simulation Models, Bayesian models, etc… There are many tools to implement these model types and techniques
We, at DQS India, offer solution for CMMI High Maturity implementation including selection of base metrics, selection of Processes and Sub-Processes, PPM Development, validation of PPM, using PPM for prediction and Control of Variances etc.
