Currently three CMMI Models developed by the CMMI Institute:

  1. CMMI for Development Version 1.3 (CMMI-DEV)
  2. CMMI for Services Version 1.3 (CMMI-SVC)
  3. CMMI for Acquisition Version 1.3 (CMMI-ACQ)

Common Process Areas: CMMI Common Framework:

16 Core PAs are common to all three CMMI Models (CMMI Common Framework) which are as follows:

  • Causal Analysis and Resolution (CAR)
  • Configuration Management (CM)
  • Decision Analysis and Resolution (DAR)
  • Integrated Project Management (IPM)
  • Measurement and Analysis (MA)
  • Organizational Process Definition (OPD)
  • Organizational Process Focus (OPF)
  • Organizational Performance Management (OPM)
  • Organizational Process Performance (OPP)
  • Organizational Training (OT)
  • Project Monitoring and Control (PMC)
  • Project Planning (PP)
  • Process and Product Quality Assurance (PPQA)

  • SAM (Supplier Agreement Management) is common between CMMI for Development and CMMI for Services Model.

  • Validation (VAL)
  • Verification (VER)

CMMI-SVC specific Process Areas:

CMMI for Services (CMMI-SVC) has 7 Specific Process Areas:

  • Incident Resolution and Prevention (IRP)
  • Service Continuity (SCON)
  • Service Delivery (SD)
  • Service System Development (SSD)

CMMI for Acquisition (CMMI-ACQ) has 6 Specific Process Areas:

  • Acquisition Requirements Development (ARD)
  • Solicitation and Supplier Agreement Development (SSAD)
  • Agreement Management (AM)
  • Acquisition Technical Management (ATM)
  • Acquisition Verification (AVER)
  • Acquisition Validation (AVAL)
