In CMMI, who maintains organizational process assets?

Organizational Process Assets are the documentation that is related to the CMMI Implementation in a CMMI Compliant Organization. Process Assets in organizations are known in following variants like Process Assets Library (PAL), Process Database (PD), Process Repository (PR), Software Process Database (SPDB) etc.  Process Asset in an organization plays an important role in the CMMI Compliance and most importantly Continual Improvement in the organization.

Documents in a Process Asset Library include process documentation, project documentation for closed projects, lessons learnt, risks database, estimation sheets, metrics data (project and organizational), training material etc. Documentation to be placed in the Process Assets Repository are selected based on their importance to the project teams in reducing the rework, better estimation, lesser defects, better project management and process improvement activities in the organization.

Software Engineering Process Group (SEPG) and its role in maintaining the Process Assets

SEPG, Process Engineering Group (PEG) or the Process Group (PG) is responsible for maintaining the Process Assets in the organization. SEPG is a group of Staff in the organization, selected from different Functional Groups available in the organization based on their experience/expertise in that functional role. These functional groups can be Project Managers, Business Development Team, Requirements Managers, Design Architects, Developers, Testers, QA and other roles available in the organization.

SEPG assigns the responsibility of maintaining the respected documentation to the respected Functional Staff so that the staffs know about the quality of content of the document.

SEPG also conducts meeting time to time to take stock of the updates in the PAL. In these meeting SEPG also present the status to the Management Representative.
