How to implement Organizational Performance Management (OPM) in an organization?

CMMI FAQ 0

23rd August, 2013

Organizational Performance Management (OPM) is a Process Area at CMMI Maturity Level 5 under Process Management category. OPM helps in achieving the business goals by proactive management of organizational performance.

OPM Implementation in Organization

For implementing OPP in an organization steps are as follows:

On the other hand OPM help in managing optimising the organizational performance by iteratively analysing the aggregated project data (provided by OPP). This involves identifying the gaps in performance against the business objectives, and selecting and deploying improvements to close the gaps.

  1. Establish Objectives: First step in OPM implementation is to establish the business objectives, compare them with actual process performance and prioritize and align them with process performance objectives.
  2. Analyse Process Performance Data: Next step is to analyse the Process Performance data in order to find the organizational ability to meet identified business objectives. Identify risks in meeting the business objectives.
  3. Identify and Implement Improvement: Based on the process performance analysis, identify the opportunities for improvement. Once improvements are identified, they should be evaluated, prioritised and validated. Then selected improvements are implemented.
  4. Implementation of improvements: Next step is to implement the improvement ideas based on Implementation Plan. Improvements are reviewed, piloted, implemented and evaluated for improvement effects. Once implemented these should be evaluated for improvement effects using techniques like Cost Benefit Analysis etc.
