Most of the organizations starting with CMMI face difficulty of assessing compliance to the CMMI requirements specifically for the projects targeted under the scope of appraisal (assessment). Further, organizations may lack the necessary expertise or manpower to do so.
In this post we will see how we can use CMMI Model to evaluate process or projects documentation in an organization.
Evaluation or assessment of process documentation is a difficult task and requires in-depth understanding of the CMMI Process Area Requirements up-to Specific Practice level. Though CMMI requirements are specific, processes are not so segregated and they have interaction and have interface with each other. The best way to handle such a situation is to have an understanding of “process-branching”. We can prepare a checklists based on the CMMI Process Area Requirements up-to Specific Practice level. Checklists are developed based on the targeted Process Document and covers important Section/Heads/Items of the process in one or two line items which can be marked as YES/NO/NA and can also description of positive or negative compliance in the remarks column. These checklists can be used to conduct the process assessments.
If you are evaluating your project documentation – Project documentation evaluation can also be done by using similar afore-mentioned checklists but here one has to look at the implementation perspective and decide whether the implementation evidence is adequate or not. If the organization has a defined set of base-lined processes, then the same can also be used in developing the checklists along-with CMMI Process Area requirements.
We at, DQS India, have world’s best CMMI Assessors and CMMI Consultants, who can conduct Process and Project Assessments. CMMI Assessors and Consultants have worked with various clients for such assessments across the globe.
