On path to the CMMI Maturity Level 3, it is required that Organization has a standard set of processes and associated artefacts like templates, checklists and guidelines. Most of the organisations have some basic QMS (Documented Quality Management System) and upgrade that for CMMI Maturity Level 3 requirements. But question comes how to make sure that their QMS is fulfilling the requirements of CMMI Maturity Level 3.
Process Gap Analysis is the technique used to identify the Gaps in the Processes and associated artefacts (templates, checklists and guidelines). In this technique all the Specific Practices (SPs) of each of the 18 Process Areas at CMMI Maturity Level 3 are listed down in a tabular format. Now this document can be used to collect Positive Compliance (PC) and Non-Compliance (NC) for each SP for all Process Areas (PAs). The compliance (and its reverse i.e. non-compliance) is mapped to the relevant SPs of all the Process Areas. Once this mapping in terms of Positive Compliance and Non-Compliance is available, organization can systematically close all NCs or Gaps. After the closure a review is conducted for the NCs or Gaps and their status is regularly updated. This process is continued till all NCs or Gaps are closed and then it is an indication of organization’s compliance to CMMI Maturity Level 3.
Organization uses their internal resources for conducting Process Gap Analysis. For an effective and unbiased Process Gap Analysis, organizations hire external CMMI Consultants for conducting this activity. DQS India provides CMMI Consultants for conducting Process Gap Analysis.
