How to conduct Training in an Organization as per CMMI?

Organizational Training (OT) helps in the planning and delivering training in the organization thus enhancing the skills and knowledge of people in the organization. This increases the efficiency of resources and out of the organization as a whole.

Organizational Training (OT) process area is available at CMMI Maturity Level 3 under the Process Management category of the CMMI Model.

How to implement Organizational Training (OT) as per CMMI:

Steps for implementing Organizational Training (OT) are as follows:

Identify training needs

Training Plan/Calendar document is prepared and updated yearly and kept in Organizational repository to establish strategic training needs. While identifying the needs, Trainings are categorized so that it can be decided what training are the responsibilities of the organization and what are the responsibility of the individual. Some of the common trainings organizations prefer to provide:

  • Leadership Development Program
  • Communication Skills
  • Best Practices Training
  • Soft skills Training

Establish and maintain an organizational training plan?

Organizational training tactical plan is established and maintained through training Calendar and Plan. Training Plan contains details of training, training topics, roles and responsibilities, schedule for training, training methods and tools required for training. Training Plan should be reviewed and revised.

Establish and maintain training capability to address organizational training needs

Internal Trainers are developed to impart training in the organization. Different trainers are developed depending on the roles and expertise required in the organization. Training material to support these trainings is developed, reviewed and used for imparting trainings in the organization. External trainers are also used to impart specific trainings. 

Measure training effectiveness

Once training is imparted its effectiveness shall be measured for effectiveness of the training. Training assessment sheet can be prepared for assessing training effectiveness using different criteria like training material, training contents, topics covered, trainer evaluation, presentation style, participants evaluation by trainer, participants evaluation by reporting manager after some time of the training.

  • Training Attendance Sheet
  • Course Evaluation Form
  • Training Evaluation by participants
  • Participants evaluation by trainer
  • Participants evaluation by reporting manager
