For the above-mentioned question, CMMI consultants may take inputs from the following.

Quantitative Work Management (QWM) process area provides guidance on managing the work using quantitative data in order to maintain the quality and objectives for process performance for the work.

Activities

Quantitative Work Management involves the following activities

  • Defining the objectives for quality and process performance for the work. Maintaining these objectives.
  • Creating a customize process to accomplish the goals for the process and process performance objectives for the work
  • Identifying and using sub-processes and their properties (attributes) to manage the process and process performance objectives for the work
  • Identifying the measurement parameters and analytical techniques for the Quantitative Management
  • Using the statistical techniques, and other techniques, to monitor the performance of the selected processes and sub-processes
  • Managing and controlling the deviation in the planned measures, process and sub-processes performance using the statistical and other techniques
  • Conducting Root Cause Analysis for causes of variations in achieving the process performance goals

Inputs

Following are some examples of input to the Quantitative Work Management:

  • Past metrics data collected for similar work
  • Historical data for processes and sub-processes
  • Statistical Tools
  • Guidelines for using Statistical Tools
  • Need to better control of project performance
  • Organizational Goals
  • Project level Quantitative Goals

Outputs

Outputs created during the implementation of the Quantitative Work Management activities are as under:

  • Project’s quantitative goals
  • Selected Process and Sub-Processes break-up and mapping
  • Work Measurement data for processes and sub-processes
  • Training on Statistical technique selection
  • Project performance report showing quantitative performance data of controlling of variances
  • Evidence of managing the project performance
  • Root Cause Analysis report for the causes of variations

The above is not an exhaustive coverage of the Quantitative Work Management (QWM) CMMI Process Area but is substantive enough to create a good foundation of the Quantitative Work Management process in an organization.
