As CMMI Consultants, if you come across the situation wherein you have to implement the Change Management, how will you do this? What kind of metrics can be generated?

Change Management Process is to control the lifecycle of changes and ensure changes are made with minimum disruption to IT Services. Changes can be classified as Standard Changes (Contains pre-approved changes with a well-defined process and low risk) Emergency Changes (Contains Critical Changes with high risk and high chances to failure).

Change Management Process Flow:

Seven R’s to be answered before implementation of Change Management:

  • Who Raised the Change
  • Reason for Change
  • Plan Return expected from change
  • Identify Risks involved in Change
  • Resource required delivering the change
  • Responsible to Build, test and implement the Change
  • Relationship between current change and other changes

Example of Some Metrics related to Change Management:

  • Development of following metrics can be considered:
  • % Reduction in No Authorized Changes
  • % Reduction in No of Emergency Changes
  • % of Changes Met the requirements
  • % of Changes Failed
  • Number of Incidents attributes to Changes

These are few examples many more such metrics can be generated depending upon the availability of data.
