For the above-mentioned question, CMMI Consultants may take inputs from the following:

Acquisition Technical Management (ATM) process area helps in evaluation of technical solution proposed or provided by sub-contractor or vendor. It also helps in managing the selected portions of that solution.

Activities

Acquisition Technical Management involves the following activities:

  • Evaluation of technical solution provided by sub-contractor or vendor by performing technical reviews
  • Keeping track of the technical solution’s build and implementation in order to assess its compliance with contract and required progress
  • Handling the implementation of selected interfaces

Inputs

Following are some examples of input to the Acquisition Technical Management:

  • Technical Solution details (i.e., preliminary designs, detailed designs, implemented designs, delivered increments of component functionality)
  • Evaluation techniques/methodology
  • List of deliverables from supplier
  • Alternative solutions details from supplier
  • Product architecture Product component designs from supplier
  • Architecture evaluations from supplier
  • Unit and integration test results from supplier
  • Verification results from supplier
  • Details of interface like list, categories, mapping
  • Mapping between product components and the external environment
  • Reports from interface control working group meetings
  • Action items for updating interfaces
  • Application program interface (API)

Outputs

Outputs created during the implementation of the Acquisition Technical Management activities are as under:

  • Evaluation criteria
  • Deliverable from supplier
  • Analysis records, logs, reports
  • Review plan/schedule
  • Review reports/results
  • Criteria for Interface management by acquirer
  • Action items for updating interfaces
  • Updated Interfaces

The above is not an exhaustive coverage of the Acquisition Technical Management (ATM) CMMI Process Area but is substantive enough to create a good foundation of the Acquisition Technical Management process in an organization.
