Can our organization go directly for CMMI Maturity Level 3, currently we have no CMMI Maturity Level?

When we conduct Formal SCAMPI A assessment for CMMI Maturity Level 3 (ML3) it has to be understood that both Process Areas for CMMI Maturity Level 2 (ML2) and CMMI Maturity Level 3 (ML3) have to be complied with. When we say that we will “go directly” for CMMI Maturity Level 3 Assessment, we are saying that we are going to have Formal SCAMPI A CMMI Assessment for CMMI Maturity Level 3 without conducting Formal SCAMPI A CMMI Assessment for CMMI Maturity Level 2.  This is feasible.

However it should be understood that “going directly” for CMMI ML3 Formal SCAMPI A Assessment does not eliminate the mandate for compliance to CMMI ML2 Process Areas. The recommended practice is to initiate the CMMI journey with CMMI ML2 Process Areas Implementation leading to CMMI ML3 Process Areas Implementation.
