It is important for the CMMI Consultants, CMMI Consulting organizations and CMMI Certified Professionals like CMMI Lead Appraisers and Lead Instructors to understand the CMMI Institute’s Code for Professional Conduct, Ethics Program and Conflict of Interest Policies. We all know that the certifications from CMMI Institute are like a badge of honor and render the individual with a sense of accomplishment in the respective professional field. All CMMI Institute Certified Professionals sign a Code of Professional Conduct which is known as COPC. The COPC is the main tool which helps maintain the standards of professionalism for the CMMI professionals. All Ethics and Compliance requirements are informed by the CMMI Institute to the CMMI Consultants and Lead Appraisers on time to time basis. The Ethics and Compliance requirements of the CMMI Institute are also enforced by the mechanism of COPC – the Code of Professional Conduct. Mainly it is about competing or conflicting priorities which may lead to blurring of objectivity whenever a professional decision is taken. Sometimes, when a Conflict of Interest does exist, it is appropriate to use the Conflict Interest Disclosure Form. If one is starting one’s career in the field of CMMI Consulting, it is very appropriate to know about these policies and be conversant with them.
