Data Management Maturity Model under development by CMMI Institute

CMMI Institute has been the centre for Data Management Maturity Model development and this is done in collaboration with the EDM (Enterprise Data Management) Council. The new model will help financial organizations in their assessment against the model practices. Model will have different components of data management defined at the specific business-process level.
Data Model has been developed in such a way that it is a CMMI Compliant. The Data Model is progressing for the finishing end and CMMI is looking for volunteer organizations to conduct the pilot workshops in order to appraise their organizations against the new Data Management Maturity Model.

The CMMI Institutes’s Data Management Maturity Model as introduced on http://whatis.cmmiinstitute.com/data-management-strategy fails to deal with technical data rights associated with commercial and non-commercial software products and their coordination with software licenses resulting from private funding, government funding, and mixed funding sources.
This can be corrected by adding an additional process entitled Data Rights linked to Data Governance and including data rights definitions; liability and risk of false claims charges; commercial and noncommercial software products; unlimited, limited, restrictive, government purpose rights; and copyrights and trade secrets.
With 80% of software procurements involving COTS products, the importance of Intellectual property and data rights are increasing.
