After the CMMI Appraisal, in CMMI Consulting Assignment, the CMMI Consultants can add value to the client organization by being a part of CMMI Maintenance Program. It is understood by all that the benefits of CMMI can only be achieved if the CMMI Best Practices are implemented rigorously and consistently. For example, we all know that a strong formal review for design document will result in defect prevention. However, if a strong formal review methodology is – actually – not carried out in the way it should be – defects will get injected and then the advantage of CMMI Implementation is lost. In today’s competitive world projects teams have pressure to deliver quality products on time and within budget. If the best practices are not really implemented, this is difficult to achieve. DQS India has conducted research on the compliance level of organizations with reference to CMMI best practice compliance and found that there are many best practices that are not followed and hence the benefits are not achieved. This generates the need of conducting regular assessments for CMMI best practices compliances after the CMMI Appraisal also. These assessments are called CMMI Maintenance Assessments. CMMI Consultants can play a role in being a part of CMMI Implementation Maintenance Assessment Packages. In this way the CMMI Consultant can help its client realize the real benefits of CMMI. And delight the customer.
DQS India carried out research analysis across the industry on non-compliance trend related to CMMI best practices covered under Project Management, Engineering and Support Process Areas. The below-mentioned Research Indicators highlight the need for CMMI Maintenance and Best Practice Implementation:
Project Management Process Areas: It was observed most of the Non-Compliances (NCs) were found in the Project Monitoring and Control (PMC) Process area.
Engineering Process Areas: During the analysis it was observed that most of the Non-Compliances (NCs) found in the Requirements Management (REQM) Process area.
Support Process Areas: It was observed that most of the Non-Compliances (NCs) were observed in the Measurement and Analysis (M & A) Process area.
It is obvious from the above that the CMMI Consulting Assignments need not conclude themselves at the CMMI Appraisal and can be continued further after the CMMI Appraisal. CMMI Consultants can engage themselves in the CMMI Maintenance Assessments and can be of perpetual relevance to their customers. CMMI Consultant can propose the concept of CMMI Maintenance to its client as a part of post CMMI Appraisal engagement as part of CMMI Consulting Assignment. In our next blog post we can discuss the scope of CMMI Maintenance and the benefits of CMMI Maintenance. If you want to discuss this further, please feel free to write to us.
