Suppose you want to hire CMMI Consultants. What do you do? You type the key-words like CMMI Consultants or CMMI Consultants in India or CMMI Consultants in USA, etc., on Google Search. You get a large number of results. The challenge that you face as an organizational representative is that when you are looking for CMMI Consultants you may be new to the whole thing. You may not know the entire concept of CMMI Consulting and Appraisal. You may also not be aware of the approach for CMMI Adoption and Implementation in your organization. Do not worry. You may still be successful in finding good CMMI consultants if you follow certain basic principles.
First, please make sure that you contact the CMMI Institute Partners only for deployment of CMMI Model. The CMMI Institute Partner website may help you finding the partners located in your area. You can even look for CMMI Certified Individuals who might be providing the services of CMMI Consultants.
Second, you can discuss with the short-listed CMMI Consultants, the CMMI Implementation Methodology. You can request for a presentation from them on their CMMI Implementation Methodology. The typical CMMI Implementation Methodology may cover the necessary steps and the time frame over which the activity will be covered.
Third, you can discuss with the CMMI Consultants their Approach towards the CMMI Appraisal Program. You need to find out from them whether the CMMI Lead Appraiser would be hired by them from the market or he or she is their internal resource.
Fourth, you may like to discuss at this stage with CMMI Consultants how the Appraisal Scope and Appraisal Boundary will be decided.
Fifth, it is also a good idea to discuss the ways and means of determining the Appraisal Sample that CMMI Consultants will follow while getting your organization appraised for the respective CMMI Maturity Level Target.
These are few suggestions that can be used as criteria for deciding the CMMI Consultants for your organization. The other issues like cost (budget), time-duration, etc., background and experience are always points of discussion. Of-course, do not forget to ask for list of referrals and then do check on the references given with some specific points of your interest.
