Most of the time, in an organization, targeted CMMI Maturity Level are selected based on the Business requirements of having a particular CMMI Maturity Level. And it is the most driving factor behind the selection of a CMMI Maturity Model.
For real process improvement and to have real benefits of Process Improvement CMMI Maturity Levels should selected based on different factors in an organization. Factors which affects the selection of the targeted Maturity Level in an organization is:
- Availability of processes, standards, templates, checklist
- Implementation Status of the available processes in a good strength of projects
- Compliance Level of implementation of processes
- Cultural Issues
If organizational processes are structured and matured then it may go for CMMI Maturity Level 3 otherwise it should go for CMMI Maturity Level 2.
